What do you all think about this + I have a silkie that is broody about 2 weeks now if I put a couple chicks under her that just hatched will she accept them - I have some due to hatch in a day or so

Mine do as long as it's been a couple weeks.

I have specific hens that I know will take chicks a week after sitting. (And one that will start stealing them the day she goes broody)

Somebody saw a pic of my Showgirl and thought it was a roo based on the shape of its beak. They said shorter, hooked beaks mean roos. Has anyone heard of this before? Here's a profile pic:

Don't think so. I know the only bird I have with a very hooked beak is female. I just had to file on it today.

Just from this pic I'd guess towards female. Zero wattle sign. Need side view of body and comb view

Hey can anyone help me I posted on the silkie sexing forum and didn’t get a reply. I have 4 silkies all about 4 months old and was wondering sex. They aren’t feed store silkies I bought from a Breeder and have found it a heck of a lot harder to tell sex. One of the three is about half the size of the rest of them. “Coop is dirty that was before I cleaned it, it’s also a temporary home just moved them into the big coop”. Thank you everyone for the help.

I have also seen this beak sexing floating around FB. I checked it against my flock and it didn’t hold true my crowing cockerel and laying pullet have the exact same beak shape. I have decided for me it’s not worth the anguish to sex these buggers, I will just wait till they crow or lay. I’m way too attached by the time it’s figured out anyway so nobody is going anywhere. If I ever get some eggs to hatch I am going to try the comb shape on the chicks just to see. Someone shared it and I believe it was taught to her by Judy Lee.
