I had one girl who went broody before she ever laid.

Wow! Before she ever laid!? LOL I had one go broody three weeks after she started laying. I have 3 seven month olds that are all broody together now. I'm curious to see what will happen when the eggs hatch. There are four eggs that they pretty much take turns sitting on.

Ok guys.. WHAT am I doing wrong?

My silkie hen has laid about 12 fertile eggs. They get about 2 weeks along in the incubator and then die. Out of the 12 I only have 4 that are within days of hatching. My other eggs (Ameraucana eggs) are hatching like popcorn so the incubator is correctly set.

Thoughts?

I was wondering the same thing. Are Silkies harder to hatch? My thoughts EXACTLY (my others Popped out like POPCORN) It was funny. I did not have many Silkie eggs last year and only hatched out 4.

Yep, I have found that the silkie eggs are harder to hatch. They are very sensitive to any temp or humidity changes, or too many times opening the bator, etc., They are the hardest to hatch imo.

ok that explains it. No more staggered hatches while silkie eggs are in there!!! Hard lesson learned.
