Not exactly sure what you mean? White in silkies is almost always recessive. Meaning that if two copies are present (c/c) the bird does not produce pigment in its plumage, resuting in white feathers. If there are not two copies of recessive white present ((C+/C+) or (C+/c)), whatever other colours are present will display.

C+ stands for coloured; c for not-coloured. C+ is not necessarily black; it can be any colour or pattern that is genetically present in the bird. c is an OFF switch that prevents the creation of feather pigment.

Genes are not dominant or recessive to other genes, only to other alleles (mutations/variations) of the SAME gene.

Colie <3 :

Is it unheard of for a bird to die from shipping stress 3 days after arrival? I found one of my white cockerels dead this morning. He didn't have any symptoms other than being very quiet and still. The people I bought him from told me he was crowing his head off before he was sent but since he was here not a peep from him and now he's dead. I'm a little concerned... The rest of the birds I bought from this person are acting fine and have no sick symptoms. They aren't in contact with the rest of my birds but they are in my backyard in a different coop but still in the same yard. I didn't have anywhere else I could put them now I'm worried

Did you observe the bird eating or drinking since arrival? That would be my first guess--that he did not. How long was he in shipment? What differences are there in weather conditions from where he originated and El Paso?

If the show was an APA sanctioned show, the 2 year old should not have even showed. The age limit for youth is 5 & up. The show superintendant should know that.

Obviously, the bird ws raised by he father, so it was not fair.

Each show makes its own rules on eligibility and age. MEMBERSHIP in APA/ABA Youth Program begins at age 5.

This year our fairs, which are APA/ABA sanctioned, do not allow kids younger than 9 years old to show as Youth. I very much disagree with this, but that is how they currently have it set up.

For what it is worth, my turned 5 last week granddaughter is (and has been for the last year and a half) much more helpful in caring for the birds than my 9.5 year old granddaughter.

That said, I do think 2 years is probably too young.

I did not see him eat or drink I just assumed he was since the rest of them were. He was in shipment for 48 hours. I think the difference in weather was it was warmer here than there. Ugh I feel horrible poor little guy
