Silkie thread!

I could use some help from the experts. Is this a pullet or a cockereal. It hatched on Christmas. Never laid an egg, and hasn't crowed. The pic with the close face shot shows a bright comb but it's not. It's actually black and small. It has no spur buds and doesn't do the squat when I touch it's back. It doesn't perch at night with the rest on the roost. It sleeps on the floor. It doesn't make a nest or fight with any of the other chickens even the roo. It does have a sorta green sheen to some feathers on the tail area. It's color is black. It's my camera that takes lousy pictures. It's impossible to get a true color with it unless it's white.

Nice looking Silkie but I'm no expert but to me it's a pullet. But you will get some of the best answer in BYC.If you have a question only BYC people can answer it.Sorry but just a guess on my end.

I was thinking pullet a few months ago but now no eggs and no squat either? The irridescence in some of the tail feathers is also questionable. I originally put it down as a pullet on the show registration form. Then asked the administrator of our website to change it to cockereal. Now i'm wondering if I should have asked him to do that. I don't have long left before he sends in the forms. I need to know ASAP from a pro. Thats why I came here. I sure could use the help.

I have a house chicken that is used to getting baths and this black one has been in the coop since it turned warmer. I gave it a bath and it let me do he bath, blow dry and other grooming with no problems at all. I was shocked.

You need to send it to me so I can get a better look.

Just a guess but it sure looks like a girl to me. Check to see how far the bone spacing is at the rear end.

I think just about every Silkie breeder I've met has had a story to tell about the pullet that started crowing or the cockerel that laid an egg.

We've got a black cock with a huge crest, no streamers and a nonexistent comb.

How soon is the show? If it's pretty soon and there's no squatting going on, I'd probably leave it down as a cockerel.

I would say pullet if I had to choose, I cant imagine a cockerel taking that long to crow, but Im sure it happens. It just gives me the impression of a pullet, what can I say?

I have 2 sizzle pullets that don't squat and both lay eggs. I also have 2 partridge silkies that don't squat either and they both lay eggs. So at my house it's not all that uncommon, but since the show is on the 3rd and the forms have to be in by the 31st I have to get it changed or not now before he sends them all in. I've gottem 4-girl and 1-boy on the suggestions from 2 threads. I want to thank everyone for the advice.
