Silkie thread!

Ty Robin! I feel better now lol. The 2 of them were driving me crazy about it thinking I was doing something wrong. The only other problem I have is that my other 3 non silkie hens copy them. None of them perch or use a nest. As long as they are all happy I guess!

My sixteen assorted breed, 5-week old chicks, love to fly up on the front edge of the brooder to greet me and get some extra love. This is usually not a problem, but this afternoon one of them let loose (and I do mean normal but loose) with a poop that landed on the shoulders and back of my White Silkie!!!

I really don't want to give the Silkie a full blown bath because I don't want it to get chilled and it is already evening. My question is: Is it safe to use "Miracle Coat Foaming Waterless Shampoo for Cats" (no wetting or rinsing required) on a paper towel to wipe the Silkie down and then towel dry? Any recommendations???

Either wipe off the excess with a towel now and wait until morning for a full shampoo, or give her the bath tonight, then blow dry and keep inside/outside (whichever is warmer) tonight with a heat lamp at one end of the cage (don't want her too hot, either).

With my LG incubator, it has been a a very steady 99.1. I have tried to turn it up just a hair to 99.5, but it jumps up to 102 or so. I decided to leave it at 99.1.

Are you measuring the temp on the top of the eggs, the wire where the eggs sit or underneath on the floor of the bator. It does make a difference where you have the thermometor placed. The middle area of the egg should be the 99.5 and the top of the egg should be around 101. I had found a nice diagram on here when I first started to hatch using a still air.

Look at post #2.

Hope this helps!

My thermometer is right in the middle, so I guess everything is fine. I had 2 hatch today and 5 or 6 more are pipping. Today is day 19.

Are the 2 that hatched doing ok? My earliest was day 19 and my latest was day 26. My temps were fine but my humidity was all over the place. I had a hard time keeping my humidity steady with the LG. Now my silkies grew up and I no longer need an incubator!

They both seem to be fine so far. I had 2 more hatch overnight. I'm now up to 3 white & 1 black with many more pipping.
