Silkie thread!

Splash is a recognized variety for silkies; columbian is not, and is not common, although I've seen a number of birds from different breeders taht approach columbian, as does this bird. Columbian is a recognised variety, just not for silkies. This particular bird is not quite right for columbian, but it approaches it.

if u could what is it missing that a columbian has and i only have white and a black silkie which one would be best to breed to this one ty very much for everyones info plus i just got it of someone so dont have another like it thats why im asking what colour would be better

Black is as close to neutral as chicken colours get. If you look at light sussex or brahma or columbian wyandottes or plymouth rocks, that is what the columbian pattern is. Your bird is lacking mostly in lacing of the hackle and saddle feathers.

Are there any books or publications with good info on Silkies? I mean actually available for purchase. I saw that a new book came out last year but I couldn't find a place to buy it.

Thank you,

Julie
