I have no idea whether either is vaulted or not.

What a scare with your girl. Glad she recovered okay though.

Did you raise these birds from eggs, or did you purchase adult birds?? A chick with a vaulted skull is very visable at birth; large bubble-like headed. Non-vaulted will look like a "normal" chick skull. The vaulted skulls from my chicks was a HUGE eye opener for me!!!!

I had a few in the same hatch that were not vaulted, and they now have similar crests as the vaulteds. Just me (??), but I think I will breed towards the non-vaulted with the bigger crests! This pecking incedence really took me aback! JMO

I bought them when they were 3-4 months old, and they're my first real silkies. My first set of silkies looked like hatchery birds and weren't too friendly, so I ended up rehoming them not long after and buying these (and a boy) from Birds and Eggs. I bought the splash pair first, and I was so in love, I ended up adding the silver girl. I've been kind of comparing Cali and Kyla, and I really like the way Cali is looking more so than Kyla. I didn't know if Kyla would change much more or not.

I don't know if they're the same, but they look like it. I believe the coloring is slightly different? Experts?
I was calling Kyla grey, but someone said she was silver partridge.

I was told its two different standards, my understanding Gray standard doesn't call for any penciling like partridge does. BUT most birds called Gray out there look Silver partridge with the penciling (Just like a Gold partridge just silver instead of gold)

o ok they must be so hard to tell apart

its like with the partridge, partridge you want good penciling in the neck, the shoulder and wing areas on the female especially. Males don't tend to have a penciled neck... There are many partridge out there of various shades from very bright red to very very dark chocolate based. Some that have very little penciling in the right areas - usually those that have buff or another color in the background that masks the penciling in the offspring.

Gray should be an all over pretty even chinchilla gray coloring, little to no penciling.
Siliver partridge should be like the regular partridge, just silver/gray tones as opposed to gold/red tones. Like sonoran said think of a Black and White picture of a partridge silkie, and thats what a Silver partridge looks like.

here is a thread where there was a good bit of discussion on Gray's.
