Silkie thread!

Thanks Sagersilkies! Well... then I'm close! My silkie pullets are all about 7 months old! Can't wait!!

Do I need to bathe my roo's 'under carriage' because he has some stuff stuck to him around his back end. Will that hinder fertility?? I've never gotten a solid response either way on that.

Scarlet456-- I'm not qualified to give you good sound advice on what gender your chicks are. I certainly can't tell at that age! Also, as for what quality you have, I'm assuming you mean Pet, Breeding or Show. That will really depend on whether you bought hatchery chicks or if you got them from a reputable breeder. The first silkies I bought are hatchery quality and are pretty ugly. They do look like a silkie-- they are fluffy! But that's about it. They still make excellent pets, though. Even if you get them from a breeder-- as I eventually did, you can still wind up with problems. One of mine that I got, has leakage, which is bad. Not show quality and likely not breeding quality either-- even though she is beautiful and a far cry better looking than my hatchery silkies. I'm sure someone will be along to answer your question. :)

is it just like chicken poop or something or what is it but if u want to bath him i don't see no harm in it i try in bath my silkies 1 a month or every other month but u don't have to do that. i mainly do it to keep them clean. don't know if it affects them fertility maybe someone will have the answer to that 1

Scarlet456 some of ur silkies do have big combs which means they could be roos but i wouldnt count on that ive had some hens combs bigger then male as far as quality goes its really hard to tell at a young age unless they have to many or to few toes or deformed u can count them as pets but the others u really cant count them out of the BQ/SQ category hope this helps im not an expert i just got into showing silkies

Yeah, it's just poop. But since they are all SO fluffy... wondered if that would hinder him. I can't imagine how any of their eggs could be fertile with all that fluff in the way! LOL

thank u hawk eye i have givin them wormer just incase the only thing is is that the little guy wont drink the water

Which wormer? Many will not treat gape worm, and no wormer treats respiratory illnesses. Not being willing to drink makes me think respiratory. Hold it with its cehst near your ear and listen for raspy sounds. Consider giving an antibiotic. Since you are in Canada, I am not sure which ones are available OTC.

its called piperazine dihyrochloride 53% did u see the vid sonaran do u think its gapeworm or something else

Piperazine is probably not the right wormer for gape worm. Fenbendazole is what you want - Panacur or Safeguard. Those are readily available in horse form in Canada. Where are you in Canada? How old is the bird that is having trouble?
