Jfaith, that handsome boy is a dark splash![]()
Dwegg, fantastic shot with your phone! My new phone has an 8 megpixel camera on it and it is darned impressive, too! Beautiful bird!
Scaredof Shadows-- LOVE that color! WOW!! How do you think they got that color? Buff and what else? Or was it an entirely a Buff breeding? Silly, but the first thing that came to mind is that it's kind of like a reverse splash-- except in Buff. ha!
PrestonSloan--I think it's great that you just joined up!! I'm very sorry about your silkies.![]()
I think you should go to the Coop maintenance forum and ask about ideas on how to better 'predator proof' your coop and run. Explain what happened there and ask for a great fix. If you don't fix the problem, it'll be unlikely that anyone is going to want to sell you their precious silkie babies knowing that they could be eaten at any time! I know the majority of us do our best to protect our birds. Accidents, of course, do happen-- like leaving the door open without realizing it... Or a very determined predator against a design that you thought was flawless, but yet they got in somehow. I put in all hardware cloth around the base of my coop and then I had about 16 inches extra that instead of cutting off at the bottom-- I dug a nice trench in the ground all the way around and laid the wire into that and then covered it back up with dirt. I can't imagine anything digging under or thru that. I have chain link for the run, however, I know that predators can reach in and grab a bird-- so I make sure that I get them all put up in their coop with the doors locked (bolted and locked with clasps that can't be opened by an animal) right when it's getting dark. Their run is pretty secure, but I take no chances with them.
I hope you get it fixed and have MUCH better luck next time!![]()
SagerSilkie, how is your baby? Is he still showing signs of any congestion (yawning) or has he gotten over it entirely?
How did you respond to two quotes at once? Inquiring minds want to know!![]()
