Got my silkie eggs this morning from Bobbi Porter!!! Whites, partridge, and lavs/splits!!!

Especially when they are broody-- they really fluff up. My little broody hen is still sitting in her nest box on the one egg I let her keep. I'm pretty sure it's infertile, so I don't know what I'll do for her. I do have eggs in the incubator that will be hatching around the same time frame-- but I don't know if I should give her one later on when it gets closer. They aren't silkie-- they are rosecomb bantams-- and much smaller than a silkie.

Anyway, unfortunately, she has plucked her self all BALD on her chest. Darned bird!! And the fluff wont stay in her nest, either, every time the outside door opens to the garage, the fluff just blows everywhere and out of her nest. All of that work and baldness for nothing. Do you think I could give her dryer lint-- would that make her happy, or would that be a bad idea?? I didn't know if it was safe for her.

I wouldn't think the dryer lint wouldn't hurt anything. I gave my broody girl 3 eggs that were due yesterday and so far nothing. Ugh!
This photo of her was before she went broody, but your right they really poof out then! I don't know if it's safe to give them smaller chicks. Be sure to trim off any belly feathers they can get tangled in. Silkies are bad about tangling the chicks.

yup thats what a broody does to keep the eggs to the skin for warmth and humidity. Dryer lint I wouldn't be too keen on using, but I know you can get that cheap rabbit cotton batting stuff at petstores and some walmarts that is for rabbit nests or even bird nests - only costs a couple dollars for a bag of it. should be heavier than her fluff and might make her happy. lol

That's what I'm using right now for the brooder. It's nice and soft.

I like it because if they eat it, it will pass thru them with no problems.
I use it in my parrot nestboxes.

Carefresh and rabbit batting-- neither of which I've ever heard of! Love learning new stuff! Thanks! I'll be hunting some down for her since I think she needs a little fluff of some kind that will stay in her box instead of blowing away. I guess I'll forego the dryer lint, then.
