Silkie thread!

While we're waiting to hear what over shredding looks like (cause all this stuff is great info!) can I ask another question? I bought a nice show pullet from a breeder near here, and the breeder was getting fertile eggs from her and her roo. I brought them both home and put them with my grow out silkies until I could fix up their own place. While they were all in together, the pullet and roo both helped themselves to the medicated chick feed the growing silkies were eating. About the time I got their own place set up, I heard on here that medicated chick feed can make eggs infertile. And, sure enough, all the pullets eggs have been infertile! They've been in their own place for a couple weeks and only eating laying pellets since moving over...anybody know how long she'll keep having infertile eggs?

Thanks for any help! I feel like such an idiot for putthing them in together in the first place, but I guess you live and learn, eh?

Sooooooo- looks like I'm going to be able to finally get some chicks!!

I'm heading to Tractor Supply in the morning in the off chance that they will be getting some in tomorrow. When they have them, they are always "assorted". How can I tell the difference between the blue chicks and the blacks and buffs? I'm pretty sure I'll be able to tell which banties are silkies, but would really prefer to get the blues and whites.... are the white chicks more white than the others, or are they yellow?

My other option is to wait 2 more weeks (which is killing me, seriously, since we figured out I can get some, lol ) and order them specifically.

Thanks!

I've never heard that, and my breeders occasionally get medicated chick feed, and I do not have problems with their fertility.

White chicks will have silvery, white or slightly yellow down; buff chicks are a MUCH darker yellow. Blues and blacks will have medium slate to black down and may have yellow or white bellies and wing tips. Splash are a lighter blue with some yellow or white.

Congrats and good luck. Some days in retrospect, I wish I had just purchased mine from TSC. But I wanted really nice ones (SQ) for my kids. I am sure they will get here eventually.....

Can someone tell me if this is a silkie or not? I bought he or she from Tractor Supply as an assortment bantam, but am having such a hard time figuring out what type of bantam he/she is. I posted in the d'uccle board as I thought it could be a self blue d'uccle but someone there told me it looked like a silkie. When I lift it's "fuzz" it doesn't have black skin. It's only a few days old in the pic. Thanks in advance for your help.

It's a little hard to see but I would say yes. :)
