Silkie thread!

Hello... I have a beautifull rooster that I consider splash. But have seen a darker splash and lighter splash color. Is one prefered over the other. Is there a technical name? He has two girlfriends, a show quality white and a almost show quality black ( her head poof has nto come back after her first molt so not sure).

Another question- can someone tell me if my colors are right
splash plus white= splash
splash plus black = blue or splash

I would make the new one about 4 inches off the ground.

Great! That's a good height for the others to hop over to get to their big girl bar.

We'd love to see pictures of your roo. It's really the only way to fully answer your question. As far as dark v. light. I may not be correct but I believe a white background with dark blue splashes is preferred.
Splash plus white would likely get you most any color and some you might not want as white can hide other colors that don't show. Blue and splash will give approximately 1/2 blue and 1/2 splash.

splash plus white= splash NO; no way to predict, except that all offspring will have at least one copy of blue; white hides all colour/pattern genes (except white).
splash plus black = blue or splash NO; 100% blue (unless the black is actually a very dark blue, in which case you are correct, half splash and half blue).

No, there is no preference in the standard for a white background; if anything, a solid white background is incorrect. Standard says "Slaty blue and white that has a faint bluish grey tinge...UNDERCOLOR: Slaty blue and sooty white, evenly distributed." You can read the full standard for splash on the club website or www.browneggblueegg.com, or better yet, purchase a standard from the ABA or APA.

Oh good! That means the ones in my grow out pen are better colored than I thought!

Thats just it i didn't get them as hatching eggs, I got the already hatched from meyer. I think it might have been an incubator problem, they threw in 5 extra in the order i think to make up for them.
