I'm confused; you previously said you got them from breeders? Hatcheries goal is selling lots of chicks, and hte quality tends to be significantly less than you will get from breeders. Unless significant numbers have serious issues, genetic and health issues are not usually addressed. In most cases I doubt that they would be concerned about a few toe curled chicks. Now if ALL the chicks ended up with curled toes or obvious illness, that would be someting they would likely address.

Nope I never said I Got them from breeders my first post about this on page 1487 only states I ordered the chicks not from where and further down and answer to a ? if I was sold those chicks by someone/breeder Was that I got them from a hatchery. I know about them not caring to much but when I talked to the guy at the hatchery his first ? was did i get any extra chicks in the order. The answer was yes, then he said that since I got extras sent then he could do nothing. When I replied that they extras were not silkies he said OH Well let me talk to the manager. and no response back.
My big thing is why was it only in the splash chicks. Doesn't matter now i don't care about the money, I just wanna help the little baby be all it can be

I just hatched some silkie babes. I did not know you could hatch a WHITE chicken, BUT I am new to this breed and would love some feedback on what everyone thinks the colors are. I have a white? 4 buff's and I think 2 blacks. Again I would love some input and opinions. I want to do it right and I need some advice and input from my peers and peeps. Thanks all!

Hi everyone!! I was wondering something, my silkies will be 5 months old in April. How long do I have to wait for them to lay? I didnt know if they layed sooner or later than other breeds?

Also how old were yours when they first decided to go broody? I love broody mommas so I was hoping some of mine would decide to set. My little roo has already started crowing so I know its only a matter of time....

Three of my girls laid at around 5 1/2 months. One laid 2 days before turning 5 months but I think most silkies don't lay as early as mine. Must be the mountain air!

A couple have been over a year, but I would say that most lay at 8-9 months. Hatchery quality tend to lay earlier. I had a hatchery silkie go broody at about 3 1/2 months! Long before she ever laid, lol! Generally they lay for at least a few weeks before going broody, but I've never figured out what flips on the broody switch other than seeing eggs sitting in a pile waiting for a hen to brood.

Okay my hatching eggs were gathered early this week, shipped out wednesday, Post Office shipped them from Florida to Wisconsin, and I live in -.- Tennessee..
So they should be here by tomorrow, what's the likely-hood they will still be able to hatch?

That bigger white one doesn't really look like a silkie to me? Correct me if I'm wrong. Or maybe it's just the picture.
It seems to have 'pink' feet. Can't tell if it has any feathers on it's toes or not in this picture?
