Thank you all. We are driving 3.5 hours on Friday to pick up more eggs. I am not trusting the PO for the next batch. We are going to try this again. I also just bleached out the incubator and will sun it out tomorrow, to kill anything that might be in it.
On a happier note we have some Silkie/Sultan crosses hatching right now under a hen. I can't wait!
I just got my first ever silkies a couple days ago!! I got two blues, ended up losing one- so today I went and got two whites!! Everyone is about the same age, 1-3 days old.
I can't wait to see what they turn into! I hope I get two hens and a roo!!!
My plan is to use the silkies for the purpose they are famous for- broody hens! So I really hope I get at least one girl out of my three.
I feel I must warn you.A year and a half ago I brought home a few silkies from the feedstore to hopefully have as broodies. I soon found myself spending all my extra time watching the little fluff balls. Then I went on line and saw the show silkies! I threw all caution to the wind and bought two dozen eggs to hatch! Now they are having babies!!! Did you ever watch the old Star Trek show about Tribbles??? Let's just say "chicken math"...![]()

That is what juvenile partridge plumage looks like.I know most chipmonk pattern chicks end up being partridge but this one really is a cuckoo I believe. I will try to post some pics tomorrow if I can get some good ones but the striping pattern goes from the wing feathers up into the fluff on the shoulders and on the back and chest and even the tail feathers. its head still hasn't feathered in on its head yet so its still pale colored with dark spots. The only thing is its not quite cuckoo colors, (black and gray), its more of a really dark gray and brownish strip pattern. I really need to past some picks so you will see what I mean. I didn't think a chipmonk would turn into a cuckoo either but like I said this chick came from my DD white hen with white roo so I didn't expect the chipmonk pattern either : )
