Silkie thread!

Agreed, save your money up and put that into quality started birds or chicks from a reputable silkie breeder. You may benefit from joining the American Silkie Bantam Club for a Roster list of club members and breeders with contact information.

Thanks Peep and SOS. That is what I am trying to do, although I want a bunch, lol! I am going to be joining the Silkie club this week. Is there any certain color I should focus on do you think? I really have no preference (ok, well who doesn't love a paint!!). I have shown dogs (Cocker Spaniels) in the past, but I am new to chicks. We plan on keeping a few LF for eggs and our silkies for pleasure/showing.

Please keep the tips coming!

Ok, my incubator is on the way! Where's the best site for my 11 year old to understand silkie breed standards if she decides to show our soon-to-be new flock?

Okay, I just signed up for the ASBC club this morning! And it's neat, I see a lot of you over there! I should have signed up last year when you all told me to do so! Ah well. We weren't really showing or doing much of anything at that point, so this is probably better timing for me. :)

Congrats! What kind of incubator did you get? I have the Brinsea Oct 20, but I want a hovabator genesis 1588 next with the great big viewing window! :) But my Brinsea holds temps and gets to temperature REALLY, REALLY fast. Go here for the standard: http://www.americansilkiebantamclub.org Even better to sign up and be a member. But even if you don't, you should really think about getting your daughter into 4-H and start showing! That is what we are doing, and already have learned SO MUCH!

We bought a mini advance Brinsea (still got 10% off by calling even tho the code is expired online). What are the benefits of joining the American Silkie Club? Do many people show outside of 4-H? We just don't have time for all the meetings.
Thanks!

I agree with Hawkeye but would add that looking at the show quality silkies on this site will be helpful and if you want to guide her you might do what I did and read the whole thread. It is a great place to get silkie educated. Welcome to our site and I hope you have a non-stressful hatch with your new bator. (Not much chance of that though. I've been hatching for quite a while and every hatch is stressful and wonderful at the same time.
