Silkie thread!

I think it's pretty hard to get help about the color of a new chick but I'm so curious I'm going to launch out here.

I have a blue roo over a black, a blue and a partridge (the one in my avatar). I can now tell their eggs apart but in the beginning I couldn't. This chick was born white so I thought it was splash but now it's getting wing feathers and it still looks pure white. What do you all think??

We bought a mini advance Brinsea (still got 10% off by calling even tho the code is expired online). What are the benefits of joining the American Silkie Club? Do many people show outside of 4-H? We just don't have time for all the meetings.
Thanks!

4-H only meets once a month... so if you want to join and attend, that would be easy to do and fits in with everyone's schedule! (there are no other meetings unless you are signed up for a project and want to go to their meetings to learn how to complete them--even those are optional) Otherwise, there is no way you're going to learn how to show unless you dive in and sign up with either 4-H or network with others showing the same breed you are. Now, 4-H has a LOT of shows-- right now, I can find a show every single week for the next few weeks. I'm sure when it gets warmer, it will slow down. If you don't have a lot of time, you may want to put this idea on the back burner for now and just work on getting nice show quality silkies and then show when you have more time. :) Just having them is a lot of fun in itself! Congrats on the Brinsea!

No idea! But she is gorgeous!! Look at all that feathering on her feet! Cute, cute!! How the heck did you get white? LOL This would be a Sonoran question!

Actually, that depends on how the particular 4H programs in your county are run. The 4H clubs here meet weekly, and for the most part, show activity is declining at this point in the year. Fall and winter are the big show seasons in this neck of the wood. We do have county fair coming up the week after Easter, but not much else until next fall.

The silkie club is very good at mentoring young or new exhibitors/breeders, has tons of breed specific information and is a good place to meet other silkie folks. The silkie cub does not have meetings, per se. When people are at the same show, they will often get together during the show, and the club officers have meetings quarterly, but not the rank and file members.

Not silkie related at all, but Hawkeye you inspired me to call our local 4H for my two olders (8 & 5). We were in cloverbuds in NC, but recently moved to PA. Time to get involved again, me thinks!
