Silkie thread!

I keep my males bottoms trimmed around their vent.

I am not a regular on this thread but I have a question. Do you pluck your silkies for breeding purposes. ? I have a roo who is doing his job but the eggs are not fertile. All my other chickens eggs are fertile. I had to pluck my cochins. Anyway, this roos bumm is exceptionally fluffy. I just happened

to notice.

I just want to get a few chicks from him. Thanks in advance.

two on the left are blues

bigger butt on the right looks like a black or a really dark blue. does it have lighter coloring or even yellow on the chest/belly? true blacks should have yellow on the belly area, blue blacks (blacks from a BBS pen) usually don't, but will LOOK black as an adult.

I'm thinking most of my blacks are dark blue then. All have white bellies and some have a white head that turns black with permanent feathers.

Thanks SOS. I am so excited to be getting this gorgeous boy and two lovely little blue girls from her. I am also getting a sweet little paint/black trio from Linda at Twin Maple. By this time Monday, I should be sitting out in the sun with my babies!

Would love to see your chicks!

The dark one appears solid, with a ghostly trace of white maybe. Two are kind of grey hazy and white looking under the light, and one is just dark everywhere. I just took some pictures, so sorry about taking up space, but maybe it'll help you help the newest member of your addictive thread. (I've been lurking off and on, I even said hi a month ago)

Here is the dark one, for a better photo

I didn't realize there was so much to silkie colors! Thank you for your imformative thread. So if this pic help, throw out your color guesses.....

Those two lighter one definitely look blue now!

I think I figured out what was wrong with my new shipped white cockerel. He was lonely. He was not eating and barely drinking and when I put him in a pen with three pullets(that are going to a show this weekend) he started eating and strutting around :). I guess I will keep him in there until I get some girls for him. There is a couple pictures and a video below of him. The yellow stuff on his chest and feet is vitamin water. He is 6 months old and his name is Edgar.
