Silkie thread!

Wow, you guys are such a valuable resource! My DD is going to be trying to show some of our birds this year, and these tips maybe helpful to her in 4-H shows.

Can you tell me how to find poultry shows that are not 4-H related? I'd like to go to some, but I'm pretty sure we're too far from much. Where do you find out this stuff?

Hmm.. so it's not just my BR's that are bullies in the pen. I would love to show off my Polish, but the poor things are missing a lot of tail feathers. Sigh. Yeah, those Pinless Peepers are definitely a life saver around here. I don't mind them wearing them-- they still get around fine and I think they are kind of cute. I have Yellow and Pink peepers-- so they are very 'summery'. ha!

Our peepers are green- got the 100 pack, so it will be a while before we can move on to other colors. I thought about giving them googly eyes, too, but it just seemed like too much work. Overall, I love my BRs; very consistent egg layers, and with people they are fine. They also leave my BOs alone, but my poor EEs for some reason. *sigh*

Test post! I have been unable to post since the change in BYC's email notification. I finally tried another browser and was able to post. "Foxfire" worked! I'm just sharing in case anyone else has had a problem!

Yep. I haven't been able to submit in IE either. There are now a few sites that I can't get IE to work on at all, so I'm using FF more and more these days. No idea what the setting is, though.....

Since you're in Kansas, the K-State website will have poultry listings for shows and you can call your county extension office, and they may have a schedule of local shows. There is a big Open show in Hutchinson next weekend-- the 14th. I'm going to that one, but I missed the deadline for it to enter, so I'm just going to look. :) When I found out about the show, the deadline was a few days earlier, so I was a little bummed about that. But their cages are a lot more expensive than the 4-H shows are. Are you close enough to Hutchinson to go to that show? Our Emporia show this weekend was cancelled!! I'm totally bummed, but it's okay since my pullet tried to strip herself. There was a Miami County poultry show last weekend. You need to keep up with it all on the K-State website. :)

Thanks Hawkeye, and good to see you again! I'll definately try to keep up on those, now that I'm surronded by all manor of hatchlings.

I've been trying to post to this for two days but the BYC change wouldn't let me.

I have porcelain chicks about this age. Two of the three on the right are porcelain and the one in the middle of the three is lavender. The flash distorted the lavenders color but the porcelains are pretty close. Notice that there is no barring on the wings like partridge have. Your chicks are beautiful!

I DO see! Thank you! And your chicks are just gorgeous! Honestly, I would have a few of each color if I could.......... lolololol.

Me too! I'm afraid the color bug has bitten me badly!! The head color on your chicks will likely change a lot in when their new feathers come in. Silkie chicks change color every few weeks it seems! They do seem to be a very light buffy partridge.

Find your state thread and see what kinds of events are going on- people at swaps- well, some of them- are very knowledgeable and quite often breed, too. Our county and state fairs aren't associated with 4-H, although that's where the kids in 4-H show, of course.
