Silkie thread!

If people come by and start pestering you. Just teel them that at this moment NOTHING is for sale. If they are interested for a later date, just offer to take their name and number and if you have what they are looking for. You will call them! No promises, no guarantee's. Just say I might keep all of them, BUT, If you change your mind. You will put them on a list.
This is the way I would handle it. Not only are people flaky, but sometimes they just want to see how far they can push. Don't bite on the hook their dangling.
My rule of thumb is Quack, Quack (be a duck) and let it roll off you.
As nice as it is to be nice to other people. You hatched your babies for you. Not anyone else.
If you have a change of heart at a later date,,, well then you will give them a call.
Don't let anyone push you around.
Those are your babies. You make the call, NOT THEM!
Hope my input is helpful to you. I have tried to please the world at one point. It's a big mistake. Don't do it.
Again, your babies, your call. Or better yet you might call, please leave your number

I just give people my contact info-- my email address. I never take their info, because I know I'll lose it or throw it out. I don't even give out my phone number until we've figured up a price and a time to view and test the animal. I figure if they are really interested, they will contact me. I've never dealt with chicken sales-- only horses or farm stuff. You'd be surprised how you'll never hear from a person again, and how they weren't really all that interested to begin with. The others-- well, they will keep your email and will write you when you least expect it. But I agree, work everything on your own terms. :)

Thanks! dark blue it is then LOL

Looking at all these pictures is making me want more. AHHHHHHHHHHH my hubby already doesn't like me LOL

I know what you mean. I am picking up 10 silkies today (like I need more) from a local breeder. I can't wait to see them. Ive only heard good things about this guy. He only has a handful of Silkies, but from what I hear they are exceptional. I will post pictures once I get home. I hope everyone is having a great day!

After reading about the bathing on the Silkie..... Well needless to say. I can't wait to try now.
Just like bathing your first baby. There is bound to be some anxiety!!

Time to track down the baby shampoo!

Happy hatching Y'ALL

Did the people from OK check in with anyone yet? Obviously we are okay. We were very close to the path of the tornado that was a mile wide. It dissipated before it got to us. But then, where it stopped, skipped a bit and then another one formed just north of us. We were lucky-- nothing got too close. But the new one that started wrapping up north of us shook the house and sounded insanely loud. We have a bit of clean up to do-- our lawn in now a mess. But otherwise, all is well! :) Those that were in the path lost roofs, homes and vehicles. No one died, and we had over 90 tornadoes spotted and recorded in the state of Kansas. Wild night.

BTW-- my eggs in my incubator are developing and growing!! SO it looks like I got my incubator figured out finally!

Hi Guys!
I'm interested in breeding some different colours of silkies, but not the standard colours, but some other colours that are more interesting! What other colours can you get and how do you breed them? Thanks

Sooooo relieved that all is well with you. I hope it wasn't too terrifying. I bet you worry about your horses. Blessings on those eggs!!!

Okay, you don't want a standard color. The standard colors are hard enough to breed true as it is! There are a couple of other project colors-- one of them is the Columbian color. It is not a standard color for silkies and not recognized. BUT, people have been working on them and doing an amazing job (and some not-so-amazing) on that particular color. From what I've read and am trying to understand, these birds are based on Silver, not gold. From what I can understand, most of our silkies are based on gold (I know my BBS birds are--especially when you can see the gold leakage come thru--which of course is NOT desirable). This is something I'd love to get involved in-- maybe in a couple more years when I really have a better grasp on the genetics of silkies. I'm simply working on the BBS and it's tough enough in itself with the potential gold leakage that can happen. We're also showing our birds, since we're doing it for 4-H, so we're trying to create a plan to breed/improve for the next 10 years or so, since my oldest (8yrs) is just getting involved and I have two more little ones that will be doing this too. BTW-- google the Columbian silkie here on BYC and you can see pictures and read about how difficult it has been for those working on them. It sounds really fun! If you are looking for a challenge, that might be a good project for you!

Thank you!! I have to admit, I did get a bit freaked out when the house started shaking and we could hear the other tornado getting started. And yes, I need all the blessings I can muster for my eggs!! Can you believe it??! I've been trying for months and months and finally I have several eggs developing now! Whew!!!

Sure am glad all we had to do this morning was clean up around here. We still have a bit more, but the yard is flooded in some areas, and it'll have to wait.
