Silkie thread!

Thank you! I'm pretty excited :) I was kind of hoping for a real "fluffy" one but after researching I think I might have a non bearded one...all good though I still got a silkie baby.
I am loving my little tiny tot as I call..."her". I've never had the Silkies,,hatched some out, decided I wanted more. I had all the others sold..I just wanted to hatch some silkies, because I hadn't, plus, people were wanting them here, still are! I have a list started again already for those that want some, but, I want a partridge really bad. A sliver p. would be really nice. Plus, I have some showgirls in one of the batches. Thinking that would be fun too. Wish these could be sexed sooner than later. I am pretty sure my silkie is a blue splash. Very pretty.

cute! I think they are partridge.

They are partridge!

I want one!

Had my 22 week old lone Silkie cockerel (my avatar) in the brooder with 11 two week old Silkie babies tonight. I'm not sure who was happier - him or them! Suffice to say, it went well. I'm sure it will be NO time before I can have all of them together full time in a proper pen of their own. (If only the weather would settle down ... <sigh> )

that is awesome... gives me hope!

Who's eggs did you get? What kind of incubator are you using?

Thanks, that's good to know exactly what the points off will be. Of course, that is if the judge even notices. And yes, with all the shipping and people buying from the same breeders selling eggs, it would be easy to have related birds. I do know who my birds have come from and am keeping track of everything. I'm going to use a different breeder that is well known for their own line of birds this time. Maybe the two mixed will bring better results. I'm going to have to get bands and come up with a good system for keeping track of them.

Let us know what you find out. :)
I got my eggs from a lovely lady who lives about an hour away from me (I;m in Broadford Vic, Australia) I did ALOT of research and made my own incubator...Ran it for weeks with any hiccups. :)

Really?? I'm wondering if I can run some of my newer chicks with my cockerel, too. And here's a thought-- tell me what you think. I'm about to hatch out more chicks this weekend. Instead of getting my brooder set up, do you suppose I can throw those chicks in with my broody who is raising my 10 day old chick right now? Would I chance that? She seems VERY motherly and freaks out when I pull her baby out to pet it. That baby, BTW, is zooming around the pen and driving her nuts. She tries to sit and and cluck at it to come to her. hehe! Anyway, I want to give it a shot and see if she'll take newly hatched chicks, that would be a big help instead of throwing them in a brooder by themselves. I don't know, I can do the brooder thing, too.

OH! I didn't even realize you are in Australia! I was thinking someone here in the States and since I'm hunting down breeders, I have been curious who everyone likes. :) Hey, that is fabulous that you have made your own incubator! You should post a picture of it! There was someone on here that used a styrofoam cooler and put lights in it and she's been hatching like crazy in it! Good luck with your eggs!
