Silkie thread!

Quote: Well, you won;t get silkie feathers in the first generation. You should get dark skin, crest and extra toes, though. Also foot feathering.

Poor Elliot, he isn't actually getting the job done but not for lack of trying (and I'm not hatching any of the eggs) although I'm not entirely convinced he realizes that!!! (I have a grow out pen full of Silkie babies that Elliot will get to run with before too long. In the meantime, apparently, he's practicing with my loose Marans girls!!!!!

Even my Blue Copper roo doesn't take him seriously! )

Yup sounds like it!
Jenny laid a new egg so now there are 6 eggs total in the basket. I put the date on the new one since she got up to eat...will she continue to lay more eggs ? know they can sit on atleast 10...peaches by the way is sitting by the basket watching the eggs now that henny is out.... It would be just my luck... So if by chance anything hatches i'm expecting small plymonths? Normal feathers right? And with nugget being a sizzle with silkie feathers I'd get fuzzy silkie feathers? How many fertizle eggs with they lay? When will I be able to eat eggs again lol Apart of me is thinking to go out and buy an incubator and set them just to see... I'm so anxious to know.... But just worry bout them laying more that would then have to be incubated too... Suggestions ? I don't know how you guys who hatch eggs do it .... So much time to wait lol I can already see myself pulling my hair out anticipation .

they are so cute. i havent been able to get near mine to take a pick, i get squaked at and wings flap if i try to go near them. she is very protective

It could be worse, look up incubation time for emu.

Once they go broody and start setting, they will not lay until after they finish raising their clutch: 3 weeks of brooding, then another 4-6 weeks of raising the chicklets.

Type will be inbetween that of rocks and silkies, probably softer, fuller feathers, but not silkied. The rocks are barred? If so, all barred offspring will be males.

One of my new babies, can you believe shes only 8/9 weeks old!?!

My beautiful girl Ginger

Licorice - 6 month old black pullet

one of my grow out kids - this one is about 10/11 weeks old

Some of mine all out free ranging - They are just lounging about

Wow, you have beautiful birds! Thank you for sharing. I know what I want in body style..lol..but even if they don't look like yours, I am loving the one I have, and I have some eggs in my bator now because I fell in love with the breed. Here are some pictures I took this morning..I think it's a splash..well, she is a splash.

She is in with some of my baby Exchequers, and some Ameraucanas that are a bit bigger, they all get along.
When I went out today, her tail looked like a bunny tail..that's why I wanted to get pictures, but while I was out there taking the pics..it didn't show up like one..maybe because I was out there, and she stretched out. I call her...a her... :)
My little Exchequer...has that leghorn attitude look! lol... I see splash on my Silkie here.
5 weeks old today. Too soon to get an idea on the sex?
Had to get the fuzzy butt shot. The Silkie's is more fuzzy than the Exchequer's. Imagine that!
