Silkie thread!

Thanks for the info. I'm still reading Sigrid van Dort's book on basic colours; I'd like to get her silkie book some day.

As for across the pond - sharing knowledge isn't the problem...it's getting the chickens across

My pleasure. Sigrid finished yet a new book on "Genetics of Chicken Extremities" again a masterpiece plenty with fabulous photos.
I know, I am in a privileged position with Sigrid as a neighbor but you have the US Silkies. We must exchange ;-)

Picked up six new silkies today. Two older chicks - a white, a grey/silver partridge(?) for my silver project, and four young ones - two splash and two regular partridge...I think. One has the "chipmunk" stripes and the other does not.

Sugar is about 10 weeks old. She's all stretched out with wing dropped because the stupid dog is playing with the squeaky toy right outside the pen.

This is a gray or silver partridge...I think. Guessing about 8 weeks old. The wings have a speckled appearance, but it's not cuckoo or barred. It's head is really dark too.

The chick in the bowl and the one to the far right are both splash. The two in the middle are partridge but the one to the right does not have the chipmunk stripes. Could it be something else? Didn't breed these and seller had a whole bunch in one box...couldn't tell me who parents were.

And for kicks - here is my pen of silkies enjoying the grass.

A better picture of Zazz (short for Pizazz) my silver project roo.

And last, but certainly not least, two Dylan's silkie chicks hatched on April 14th.

Just took pics of the two partridge chicks. I hope someone can help me figure out what colours I just brought home :)

Two side by side shots. The striped chick is more greyish in cast than the unstriped. Unstriped has a yellow/buff head but shading is still muted like taupe and not golden.

Wing feathers of the striped chick.

Wing feathers of unstriped.

The darker chipmunk striped one is going to be a regular partridge. too soon to tell what shade - but most likely a medium-lighter shade of partridge.

The yellow headed chick - no idea! Doesn't look anything like any partridge I've ever hatched, but it has the partridge wings, so it could be a Gray or ??? no idea. LOL!

Your Zazz is beautiful! The one you are calling gray looks blue to me. Mystery chick could be buff with some black.

How long before they grow back? My poor Roger got attacked by a hawk today, and he survived it. BUT is scalped pretty good as you can see... Should I neosporin him? The only places that seem to have bloody spots are on his walnut... everything else is just raw. I am afraid to blu-kote him since its so close to the eyes... What ya'll think would be the best plan of action. This guy put up on hell of a fight.
