Silkie thread!

My 2 month old silkie was eaten by a hawk yesterday

How do I make sure this dosent happen again?

I am sorry about your silkie. The night of mothers day, we lost 11 of our birds, including our 2 white silkies (2 months also). Our family cried, my husband and I because we knew what really happened, and my daughter was upset because her chickens "ran away". We ended up putting the coop into a 10x10 steel dog kennel with a wire top and bottom, and they only come out of the run when someone is outside to watch them. We have every type of predator under the sun here, so the dog kennel may be overkill, but we didn't want to have another loss and have our daughter walk up on the massacre. She wouldn't be able to handle it.

We have 17 hatchery chicks (2 weeks old today) in our backyard. 6 of them are Silkies and I noticed today that one of the white Silkies has two toes that are completely grown together on both feet. I guess I had been paying more attention to their butts since a few had pasty butt and didn't notice the toes until this morning. They're bad enough that I know there is nothing I can do at this point. Will the chick be okay? S/he doesn't seem hindered in any way - s/he keeps up with the other 16 just fine but I don't know if s/he'll always be that way? I did a search for this on here and only came up with one other person with the same issue but there were no comments on the post. Here are some pictures:

Thanks in advance!

I found this link: Do you think 2 weeks is too old to do this? http://successwithpoultry.blogspot.com/2011/06/maran-chick-fused-toes-surgery.html His toes look worse than the chick in this post...

It will likely do fine if it's not having any trouble now.

Thanks Peepblessed! The paint is 4 months. I hope girl but that beak is looking male to me. Never know at four months tho right? The girls are five months.
