I don't know for sure on the silkies, but every other breed I own, first crow is followed by first mating almost immediately.
Interesting..........I will definately keep an eye on him. What will happen since neither silkie girl is laying eggs yet? Eeeek, will that be a problem? Should I introduce Bullet to my Buff Orpington who really wants babies anyway?

I'm just kidding about letting them mate, but they would have some interesting looking offspring for sure. A "blue" with a "yellow" makes GREEN fluffy babies, right?
What a great boy though!! My boy started trying to breed at around 8 months but didn't crow till 10 mths that I heard. I've had them breed at 4 months so they are all different. Bullet sound good. :)
Oh wow!

My son has been looking forward to seeing the entire mating cycle. And I don't think in the naughty way, either. We've incubated and raised chicks but never had roosters and hens together. Who knows, maybe it was a one time thing and we won't hear it again for a while. I've got the extra cage cleaned up and ready to bring in the house in case this happens every morning, though. (Did I mention that I'm not supposed to have roosters?)

Oh-and in regard to calling him Bullet from now on...I just hope he doesn't shoot blanks! hehe!

OOOOkay...here are some pics of my babies

Diamond

Magnolia--this is the best I could get out of her...

Georgio

They all need baths sooo bad. How long should I give them to adjust before bathing?

2 1/2 week old babies--shaky hands and moving chicks--not a good combo!!

5 day old chicks--hard to see the blue and black ones

Willow/by--my little cripple baby....what do you think? Splayed or something else? She usually does not sit up like this....maybe she is getting better...see her right toes?

I got 4 white silkie chicks last week, and 6 eggs from the same stock (a breeder in my area) to put under a broody hen of mine. Dirty faces are from eating an apple

when they are bunched up like this they greatly resemble a cloud lol

Our Anatolian Shepherd is not impressed with his new subjects, it seems

I have no clue on their gender, but hopefully I'll get a few pullets and not all roosters
