Silkie thread!

A summer silkie pile is widespread; a winter one is much more condensed.  Highest pecking order girls are in the center, Boys guard the edge.  Chicklets snuggle under the entire pile, lathough the youngest usually stay under Mama.
I have noticed this as well, except the boys. The boys roost and don't join in on the pile :idunno

I have chicks that stay under their older sibling sisters. It's so cute :love

Oh great. Now I am nervous to go out and check on my silkies this morning. they went out in the rain yesterday and I had to stick them in the coop bc they wouldn't go in. And it was cold, and they're young :(

They'll be fine as long as it's above freezing. Mine were soaked before bed. It didn't go down past 10C, so they were fine this AM.

Also note that we go down to -40 with windchill some times here, and the silkies did very well.

Mine do too....they look like dough-dough birds running in all directions at once ducking their heads and acting foolish. I could watch them and laff all day lone
They are hysterical when they run. lol Mine do their best sprints when they see their run door open. They all dart for the door and the grass. lol

No problem! Glad I could

Any thoughts on what color this little chick might be? He looks to have a little black coming in on the wings.
Could it be some sort of a gray?

Got a nice lovely new bird....

OMG, that's funny!!

I feel silly now - I swear I knew the ounces, I just thought 10 ounces = 1 lb. Why did I think that?

You probably though that because it would make more sense. Stupid american system is confusing at 16 oz/lb. I miss the simplicity of using the metric system like I did when I was in college for my Biology degree.

One of my chick has one side of her skull completely bare. Is it something I should worry about? I haven't seen any pecking so I don't think that would be the cause. It's just weird!
here are some pics:
