Silkie thread!

First introduction of my 3 1/2 month old Grey Silkie pair. Just brought home from the Chehalis Winter Brisk show in Washington State. Purchased from Marjorie Best. They are so very dear. They took to FF straight away. They got it all over their faces but are learning to wipe them clean. Their poo went from loose and smelly to firm and not so smelly in a matter of hours. But...Like all little babes...They picked out every single BOSS bit and spit it out in the shavings! Hah! They are learning to nibble on fresh apple and find the water bottle with ACV and Garlic juice too.

The male with little female hiding. He seems to always step between me and her. So cute.

I am in love with these two little sweeties.
Oh Mumsy!! So glad you got a pair of silkies :D

Now I'm not so alone over on the road less traveled thread

They are adorable! Yes my silkies don't like the BOSS much either

Just when I think this cockerels tail can't get any big, it does! Love this guy!!

he is really beautiful Peeps...congrats...

I have just put my 10 little babies (5 weeks old) out in their little coop for the first night without the heat/light...I put a tarp over the end for a little extra warmth and a lot of shavings inside...

I have discovered that my Silkie was the one that layer first. I saw her lay an egg once. She has tiny, pink eggs and they are adorable! I had 14 of them, so I ate some today and they were delicious! What are the normal laying rates for silkies? Mine lays for two days in a row, and then skips a day. The first day she will lay IMF the morning, and the second day she will lay in the afternoon. Also, I though silkies took the longest to mature? I'm still surprised that mine started laying before my Orpington who is yet to lay,

Well, I got my new birds from CJ's Silkies. They are STUNNING!!!! I lost one of the porcelains during shipping. Cj was kind enough to immediately reship TWO older porcelains! She knew how much we wanted the porcelains. I got them the following day. (so nice of her!) I just had to share because I am so happy with ALL of the birds. I will be going back for MORE....here are the birds I received from her. I just can't get over how beautiful they are!

Some people have cats and lap dogs but I do love love love little Silkies. I wasn't planning on purchasing any at the show but as soon as I saw them my heart melted. Marjorie Best was the breeder and was so nice and gracious to tell me about the finer points of Silkie care and breeding Greys. I've admired her breeding program for over 15 years and never thought I'd ever get the chance to purchase birds from her. I am still in shock. Gone out to the barn a dozen times today to play with my new babies.
Oh...And Johnny has four new pullets of mixed breeds in the quarantine pen.

:D Yay for Johnny!!

I'm glad you got them again. They really are awesome birds. Even if they are a little stupid when it comes to free ranging :p

Hear that Peepblessed? Have to pen the silkies again. We had a hawk attack that was not successful, but the silkies stood around while everyone ducked for cover.
