OK I got this silkie about two weeks ago from a bad home. I got 4 hens from this man and all were very under weight. This one started about a week after I got her with eye problems. I read on here went to feed store did everything I knew to do but still not better. I used Vetrx as per what I was I read on here and what I was told at the fed store. I have also used Terramycin Eye Ointment. The eye is closed all the time, not runny, and when I open it to put med in it bubbles?? She eats and drinks good and is putting on some weight. Any help or ideals???

so sorry about your chicken. Sounds like you are oing everythink I would do. Have you washed it out? maybe eye worm? I also use tylan injectable and drop in eyes. Keep the bird in a seperate pen away from the others and watch for open mouth breathing. Listen to the chest to see if you can hear anything. Good luck!

Poor chicken. You might want to do a search on eye worm and see if that fits the symptoms you see, I have read about it but never treated it myself. the only other idea I have is perhaps the Terramyacin is not killing the type of bacteria that is affecting the eye. I have actually read about using neosporin for humans in the eye ( which has 3 different kinds of topical antibiotics in it in a petroleum jelly base) I tried it for one of my roosters 2-3 times a day and it cleared up his infection.

Does your silkie still have the eye problem? Mine has the exact same thing. I put some antibiotic ointment in it a few times but it is still the same. Let me know if you have tried anything else.

I would continue with the antibiotic ointment, and also try a different antibiotic, something for infection. Penicillin is good. My favorite is LS-50.

I have a chicken who had an eye problem... actually she lost her eye in a fight over food with a crow who got into the run. Antibiotic ointment didn't seem to help. I used colloidal silver spray for a couple of weeks- it helped.
