The holiday in Britain would have been guy Fawkes night. We used to celebrate it here in Australia until they decided that 1000's of huge bonfire full of tyres and everyone setting off their own fireworks might be dangerous.

The holiday was in celebration of a person who tried to blow up Parliament House

It's in celebration of the fact that the person was caught, not that they tried to do it. Also, you're not supposed to burn tyres, I'm not really sure who was doing that lol.

I've only ever seen Guy Fawkes effigies being burned I've never been to a parade, so I'm not sure. Maybe in London they do that.
