Silkies - Bald on their backs

If you do I would put baby oil. I have never applied anything on mine before. I wouldn't think baby oil would hurt them though.

Aloe Vera will also help. You can use the kind for sunburns or the actualy aloe plant. Break it open and rub on. I have one that came here with some plucked feathers. I am going to do this on her also.

I don't know about putting anything on their skin, maybe someone else will jump in here on that.

If you just got rid of a bad mite infestation, that's good.

Now you just need to make sure that they are eating and drinking well. If they are they are, then they will start to thrive. The mites were probably stealing nutrition from them. Now what they eat will just be used by your chicks. Maybe someone will have a suggestion for a suppliment that you could add to their feed or water that would benefit their skin. I think you just need to watch them and give them TIME for their bodies to bounce back from the mite infestation.

I agree with the others, silkies don't look like dinosauers, they hatch with fluff. Then the fluff grows into bigger fluff that covers their skin even more. When their second set of feathers are growing in they can look a little weird in 'places' because of the feather bundles next to the skin. But over time those bundles grow more and open up allowing more of the fluffy feather to show.

If you use the sunburn aloe, just use the plain don't use the type that contains the lidocaine or other similar pain reliever.

I bet in a few weeks they will look so much better, just give them time to rebound
