Hey guys! New the chickens and I really want a silkie but I'm not sure which one I want. What is the difference between a bearded and nonbearded.

eyes or no eyes, hahaha.

I have 6 white bearded silkies and I am enjoying looking at their big beautiful eyes, as soon I won't be able to see them.

other then that, I don't know, this is my first batch. I like the look of the bearded, they look like walking cotton balls.

Beardeds have a "beard" of feathers beneath the beak, non beardeds do not. Nbs have much better vision than beardeds, as they do not have the beard feathering obstructing their view. If you will be free ranging them, I would suggest you go with non beardeds as they can better see predators coming.

I have non bearded and for pets that's the way I'll go... my girls free range, so they need to be able to see the cat... then of course, they chase the cat...

On a bearded bird, the wattles should be as small as possible and hidden by the beard, with a natural absence preferred.
