So the good news is my 2 almost 16 weeks old silkies are roosting :). The weird thing is they go to roost one to one and a half hours earlier then when the big girls go to roost around sunset. Is this weird? Should I be kicking off the roost or just let them be?

Thanks in advance

Let them be. My Orphingtons are the last to go to roost. My Ameraucana hen goes in a full two hours earlier than her flock mates. My RIR usually joins the Ameraucana not too long after she goes to roost. Some are early to bed and others need some convincing - kind of like kids!

^ I agree. My younger Silkies go to bed quite early, probably a good 30-40 minutes before the adults. My rooster stays out the longest. He makes sure everyone is in and then hangs out for a bit by himself. Usually he scoots in the door and gets to his spot when he sees me coming, sometimes I have to stick him in there if I'm in a hurry to close up :p

Thank you. I never thought that some chickens would go to bed early. Though hey were ruled by the sun, lol. I am glad to hear that you chickens do this too. Silkies are weird little birds, lol. Last night they actually stayed up nearly as late as the adult hens. I guess I chalk it up to my silkies being teenagers, lol. Thanks again!

My silkies go to bed WAAAAY earlier than my big red laying hens. Especially in the winter. They have a mini coop within the big coop and they'll be in it 2-3 hours ahead of my big chickens. I wondered if it was a silkie thing?
