Hi,
I live in Central Texas and I would like to get some Silkies. I am a bit concerned about caring for them in the heat though. I wanted to see if anyone in a similar warm place with Silkies had any advice. Do they need anything special like a mister during the summer? Or would they be ok with shade and fresh water? Thank you to anyone who has advice. I’m new to keeping chickens. This will be my first summer with feather babies.

Build your pens under large shade trees, such as oak or mesquite. The act as natural acs. Make sure to have your coop well ventilated.

Not a problem! For all of my pens there's either a tree in it, or over it, it works great. I like doing big shallow bowls of water too, it gets dirty but ik my layers like walking through it occasionally.
The shallow water bowls are a really good idea. I had not thought of that. I think they will appreciate them. Thank you!
