Supposedly they go broody a lot (never had one go broody for the 5 years I had mine though).

They do okay in the cold, but if they get damp and cold they can go down hill really fast

So keep them in the coop on a rainy cold day?
 
Mine like to be in the rain. Never lost one yet.

Even in the spring, sometimes there will be a squabble amongst the boys, & someone lands in an icy puddle. They usually stop, go inside to dry off.
