Silkies Of A Different Color

Pics
No, I haven't seen anything other than the khaki you brought to the show and now these pics.

My DD has blues and blacks from Sundy that she'll be starting to breed soon and my DS will also be starting on his birds, so I've got breeding on the brain. I've just been playing around with the color calculator.

I thought about your project and have had an image in my mind since meeting you. Then Three Cedars Silkies gave me your screen name and a recent thread pointed to this one.

I was wondering if my 9 wk old Silkie is really a Buff or maybe could it Please be a Red.
Can anyone tell yet? I tried to put in different angles.

At 9 weeks he is really young, and his colouring will undoubtedly darken, but if you look at his fluff, it looks more buff than red. My reds have always had a different hue than buffs; it is not just lighter vs darker, but actually a different hue. I cannot think of terms in the yellow to red range that accurately describe it, but if it were blue, it would be like the difference between blue-green and blue-violet.

Tort is often just a name given to mis-colored greys with silver in the hackles and red leakage on the shoulders. Its one of those pain in the butt problems that once you get it in your greys, its hard to get rid of (esp on the males). People are trying to market them as Tort/Tortoise to sell their PQ culls that way. Its the same as many people selling their mis-colored splashes with red leakage as Calicos or the blacks with alot of silver in the hackles as Birchen. I've also seen people trying to sell their gold hackled blacks as dark partridge. You might get them by accident, but not really something people are working to breed for.
