Silkies Of A Different Color

Oh, I like that rich color on Ricki! And his full sister is smutty buff? Yes, I would say blue partridge with yours too - I can see the blue in his tail feathers. You sure are getting a lot of darned old pretty boys!

Sonoran, would you please re-post that blue partridge of yours? I saw a picture of her (maybe in this thread) a long time ago. I thought she was the bees knees.

Do you have a picture of a lavender partridge and how do you determine the difference between a blue partridge and a lavender partridge visually?
with lavender, all the colours would be very dilute.

Hello everyone

,
wanted to get peoples thoughts on my little hen Bernadette. she's a little over two years old now, but even when she was a chick she was a solid brown fluff ball. i have a good handful of partridge and i don't think she looks partridge but that might just be me? and don't want to call her something she's not.

i emailed the guy i purchased the hatching eggs from and he said he had a few chocolate silkies in his group and often gets chocolate chicks, so i.m hoping thats just what she is. I'm learning the differnce between dun and chocolate and how to breed them. and have her with a solid black roo till i hear there's a better way.

Oh and Sorry about her hair cut i felt like she wound be safer with a hair cut, too many hawks in the neighborhood and i wanted to keep her safe. she just got done raising a brood of chicks and has started laying again. so i'm very excited to hatch some of her eggs:)
i also promised someone from here some eggs, if your still interested she's laying, but knowing silkies who knows for how long:)

I love this shot.....so expressive!!! I have one similarly colored Theresa and I always just call her a dark partridge. She looks a different color every time I take a picture of her. (in the shade and in a sunbeam) Here's my two girls for comparison:

The chocolate hen that is more of a dark chocolate and milk chocolate.

ohhh..
she's adorable fur and feathers:)
i had her for 2 years just thinking she ws cute little no named mutt color. until i found out it was an actual color :),
found out the gene works similar to blue diluting the black to brown. i now have two chocolate polish banty hens im thinking about using them together in a sizzle project next year. i have her, with a jet black silkie now but i'm planning on switching him out in a bit for a black sizzle roo or a gold lace frizzle roo? if all the chicks are black, i think that means the boys will be split to chocolate. so i'll keep my fingers crossed for a frizzled roo to mate back to them.
oh.. so much to learn, but its, so exciting:)

I just picked up a Silkie cock from a friend who said he was dropped off at his house. This boy has the coolest color; silver, lots of blue, black, deep red and some brown. Very pretty. His comb is quite red, but both his foot feathering and type are very good (from my opinion). I haven't gotten pictures, as I just got him and my good camera decided to conk out on me, but will get some tomorrow. I plan on breeding him to a partridge hen.
