Silkies Of A Different Color

The jury is still out on the color of this guy. Either a lavender (self blue ) with a Columbian type pattern, or a Porcelain (self blue cream) with heavy lavender color. His feathers aren't quite as brown as it looks in photo- more white...

i vote columbian but it might be because thats what i want him to be, love him talked to you on facebook about how much i adore him

im super happy with them!!!
they have their flaws, but i think they're both are very nice.... big crests and compact bodies. theres lots of dark under coat in the roo, not happy about that but, they're so hard to find and new blood is much appreciated here. the hen is a little light on markings only a few black dots on the neck and tail feathers but wing markings are there.



so anyone have any ideas on how to clear up the gray under coats? wile hopefully intensify the markings on the hens in the next generations?

If they are e^b based, they will have a dark undercoat. If they are E^Wh based, they will not, but you will have issues witheye and skin and comb colour being too light.

BTW, I think you have a very good start on columbian!

Aaahhhh.. that makes since. because the Colombian roo i have now, well before i got this new pair does have lighter eyes and more of a mulberry comb but very clear white under coat.
so now would it be bad pattern wise to cross the two lines? because now i have both girls and boys in both types? i was hoping to cross the two for new blood and to improve each others faults. but i'm now guessing maybe the darker under coat isn't fault? and the lighter eyes is? but i so like the clear white coat better..... so conflicted!!!

For reliable (at least relatively so) photos of a breed or variety, check out feathersite.com. In most cases the photos of breeds and varieties are correct, or nearly so.

Grey is more easily confused with cuckoo than with blue (once you know what the variety looks like). Different countries use different variety (and sometimes breed) names. What we call buff is gold in England, and what we call grey is called silver in Germany. Genetically grey is sort of a mystery (there is a discussion on the club forum from a year or so ago) in that the standard for males does not match the standard for females. Anyways, unless you want to get quite detailed in your analysis, consider grey and silver partridge to be synonyms. Yes, they technically are not, but ... and different judges will tell you different things, and a bunch will say that they really don;t know what it is supposed to look like.

Will do! But, I'm using him for lavenders and black splits. Unless he's Porcelain, then I'm using him for Porcelain girls.
