Silkies Of A Different Color

Are you showing that salmon boy at Frederick? If so, I'll see him in person there

Gorgeous bird April!

Not him, maybe his little brother. His brother is not as round as I like a cock to be, so he is the standin. This guy will be at the Ohio National though.

The hens are only about 3 months so their color is not finished yet. I'm waiting to see how they look when totally done. This guy looked like this when he was younger

So no way to tell what he would look like 6 months later. They REALLY changed a lot. So it will be a waiting game to see what the girls will finish as.

Yeah it was weird, I thought they were going to be Dun-somethings for the longest time. The closest I could think of was Calico, but the straw color in the hackles and on the tips really threw me. So at Lucasville, I thought they were more Salmon aptterned, just didn't want to throw out the name on my own. So I had Faverolle breeders look at them, and several judges who gave me their opinion. They all agreed that Salmon was the closest in color & pattern, and it being Silkied, well those feathers change alot when you are trying to determine what color/pattern to call something. ie Partridge, I've never seen a silkie look like any partridge you find in a hard feathered breed. So that is the origin of the name Salmon for these birds.

Here is an oops! The Splash cock hopped over with the Porcelain hen for just a second. That's all it tooK! So here is a pic of a Porcelain Pullet ( just my luck) with the slightest bit of splashing on it.
