What you have are birds that appear to be from Grey breeding with Automasol Red. Commonly referred to as Calico. The red coloring in the second bird is the feathering in of a Male bird.

Are Calico and Tortiseshell the same color?
So under Variety for a show entry form I would put something like AOV- Calico? Would this be acceptable? I know it's not a "real" color, but I would mostly want to enter him so that I can get experience with showing while my SQ White & Partridge juvies are still growing up. That way when the time comes for me to show them, I'll better know what I'm doing, lol. Thanks Brody!![]()
The birds that are lighter, with overall red tones, etc are called Calico. M@M@2four post a pic a while back on the Calico thread of one. The birds that are Very Dark all over, with red on wings, sometimes showing white at the tips, etc are those called Tortiseshell. Think of the cats, white body with orange & black spots are Calico, where the Black body cat with orange & white patches are Tortiseshell. Home this helps.
If you wanted to show him, you would then enter the color as Calico. He would be judged as an AOV-Any Other Variety. Would be judged against other AOVs, but could only win BV & RV, would not be judged against the standard colors for Best & Reserve of Breed. It would be a good learning experiance. I would wait until judgeing is over and then ask the judge to go over your bird, and explain what you could do to improve him etc. and what you could do to prepare your standards for future showing. Good luck, and remember to have fun at the show!
