Silkies Pros and Cons!

I was scheming a chick purchase in the next few months and was looking at getting some silkies, I want a hen that will be consistently broody so i thought it would be a good fit. Yalls thoughts?
Silkies don’t have much personality but they do make great brooders. Some have personality though. They are the best next to Cochins in my opinion. Mine was great.

Mine have been very mediocre..mine haven’t been hardy they have also been poor mothers..don’t expect many eggs I got my first eggs yesterday since august (non stop brooding+poor laying ability) if you’re looking for pets they might be okay mine don’t have very much personality at all. My experience with the roosters/cockerels haven’t been pleasent mine have been rough on the hens or aggressive to people. If something going to go wrong it’s going to happen to the Silkies. Mine did ok free ranging they protected themselves from a hawk (took shelter) although unlike my Barred Rock and buff Orpington rooster my Silkie rooster wasn’t interested in scaring the hawk off (but he did get his hens to safety) if I wasn’t out there it’s probably would have ended bad. This is all my personally experience all birds have their own personality’s just because mine are mediocre won’t mean yours are.

Love the pictures

i no longer will purposely get a silky.
they have trouble getting up on my roosts and nest boxes.
they dont seam to tolerate the cold well like the smooth feathered birds.
i think they are more timid than standard breeds and tend to get picked on if in a mixed breed flock.
a flock of just silkys would be the OK. i have heard they are great broodies, but none of mine went broody.
i had a silky bantam that was a pet. very sweet girl.
