Yes! it all depends on each bird just because I have a bad batch doesn’t mean everyone will. I’d say you scored with yours!

I haven’t. I got mine from Craigslist and now I breed my own.

You’ll hear this a lot but if you’re wanting a quality bird i’d buy from a breeder. 99% of the time hatcherys only care about egg laying capability’s so im return they breed broodyness out of hens so they can lay more eggs.

Are silkies bred for show or show quality more likely to go broody?

I’ve only had silkies and I’ve had them for 1 1/2 years. I personally love them but I don’t know what other breeds are like. My silkies are super friendly and sweet. They aren’t the smartest but their beauty makes up for it. . I get about 4-5 eggs a week from each hen. They go broody about 4 times a year. So far my hens have been excellent mothers.

The cons of having silkies is they seem prone to illnesses. I’ve talked to people with other breeds and they don’t have nearly the issues I’ve had.
