I have 5 Silver laced hens and just received 4 Silkies. I'm new to the smaller type and am afraid that our coop is not suitable for them. Our big girls go up an approximately 3 foot high ramp at night to roost and lay in their nesting boxes. I don't know what to do for the silkies. Do I leave them down on the ground? Of course they are fenced in, but I'm afraid something will get to them. Someone please give me ideas of what I should do.....

I would venture that the Silkies will trot right on up the ramp into the coop as the other chickens do. Generally, new chickens require confinement to a coop to learn that it is home, but the presence of the other chickens will likely be a model for them to follow.

If you keep the food in the coop, they will be fine. I suppose that you could put them into the coop at night, so they wake up at home.
