According to many, they are wonderful mothers, the friendliest of all birds, best broodies on two legs, and now, killers of rats, and trainers of other chickens! Is there ANYTHING these mutant cotton balls can't do?

and no. I do not own a single silkie...yet...keep talking you silkie fan freaks...you may yet convince me to drink the koolaid...

I can't imagine my life with out my silkies! I let one of my girls hatch her eggs this summer and ended up with 2 roosters and a hen. So far they are all getting along fine and dad is looking after everyone. YOU WILL NOT REGET HAVING THEM IN YOUR LIFE!! They are amazing!!

They can't see well?....

Oh and they can't get away from predators.. So slow.

I have a white Roo and he really is a doll! I caught him sitting on eggs, he didn't go broody, he just sat on them until Mamasan got her drink and food and drove him off her nest. bizarre-est thing I'd ever seen.

Oh yeah he dances for the girls to entice them to mate, just an all around gentleman. I think he understands the concept of the soup pot!

However, he is not fast, (speed wise and I am not to sure what he does with the few grey cells he was given...

), he will never be top roo - he doesn't have much of a fight instinct.

We have orpingtons, wellsummer, ee, and silkies. The silkies are the sweetest things. They are sooooo cute and sweet. Even my 2 year old can pick them up. They get along with the others and surprisingly are not at the bottom of the pecking order. When we added 1 hen to the flock, the others all terrorized the new gal but not the silkies.

Silkies are the sweetest chickens! Our three little ones are 10 weeks old. We have one roo for sure, and I suspect that the other two are a roo and a pullet. Anyway, they *love* to be held and picked up, and my daughter and I smoosh their little fuzzy faces in with our smoochies...

My husband thinks that we are nuts, and we probably are. But, whatever! They are adorable and so well-mannered. I wish I had started with silkies!
