East Texas! :)
Hey...

My new Silkies wont go near the heat lamp, Im in Texas... Its like 90 degrees and they are on the south side of a covered porch.

Can I turn the lamp off for the day and put it back on tonight?

They ARE outside so... Thanks!

Well, usually this means they are a bit too hot. Try pulling the heat lamp farther away from were they are at. Temps seem to drop at night, so maybe lowering it closer to them will keep them warm and comfy.
Good luck with your new silkies!

haha sorry yes turn the lamp off if it is that hot .
Turn it back on at night when your temp gets down.
Dont wait to long for temp to go down to low.

If it's 90 degrees outside you can turn the lamp off and turn it back on if it gets a lot cooler at night. I'm assuming by "new" Silkies they're still a less than two weeks old...how old are they?

I agree with the post above. Turn off the light during the day and turn it back on as the sun is going down. But check on them and see if they go back under. From what I have learned about Silkies, they don't like heat too much. When they get bigger they will be pretty fluffy - which will insulate them (or keep the heat in close to their bodies). So when they are fully feathered, try to let them have access to some shade and plenty of water.

Hopefully a Silkie eggspert will chime in!! But I'd say it's safe to turn off the light during daylight hours. Good luck!

PS ~ Pics would be nice! Us silkie lovers love looking at new silkies!!
