So I still don't know how to start a new thread so sorry it's in here. But on Friday there are some silkies coming up for sale and I was thinking of getting some but I headed they are ornamental and don't really lay eggs. What is your opinion on them because I think there curmte and apparently they are friendly too!

Hi again, chicksonline! I don't know much about silkies other than people seem to love them and that are friendly. You might post your question in the Silkie thread of the Breeds Forum here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/297632/silkie-thread
Hope you find the answers you seek!!

Silkies are very popular: they are generally docile and a kid's favorite. Some chicken folks get them because the hens often make great "broody" hens.

They are not great layers, other breeds tend to pick on them, and they generally are the first ones taken by predators.

Hi and welcome to BYC - D/Diva has given you a great response, so I will just say a big hello!
