Silkies

I have had chickens my entire life. Recently I have been looking into silkies. Is there anything I should know before purchasing? Any special diets, special needs? I mean like, I want to know EVERYTHING about silkies to make sure I have maximum safety and care for my birds.

I think silkies are cute but I've opted out because I free range and our weather is so wet and humid here.
There are plenty of silkie people here who can advise you. There are several silkie threads too.

I wouldn't recommend them for excessively cold climates or if you want any decent egg production.

Thank you! I love silkie. They are so cute. And where I live, it's not that humid, so we won't have a hug problem. Also, we have a stall for our chickens until they are old enough for free range.

Whew... Silkies are... clueless. I like to trim my girl's head floof for better eyesight. They are not preditor aware, but are the cutest little clowns you will ever meet! Silkies are like normal chickens, just make sure they dont get muddy... that happened to my girl and it took forever for her to get clean again lol.

I owned a couple Silkies years back. They aren't hardy in extreme heat and cold. I lost them all within the first year. Best of luck with yours!
