silkies

Here's mine. The better the quality the slower they are to mature. They are not large birds.

Yes, I will be selling some eggs.

I have to wait about another week, since my Lav Orp boy decided to get him some Silkie Girlfriends. It's been 3 weeks, but I want to wait the 4 weeks just to make sure.

1st Pen I have the following colors:

1 Lavender Hen (waiting on her to start laying again) The move put her into a molt.
1 Black Hen
2 Splash Hens
1 Lavender Roo (The oldest one)

2nd Pen I'll have the following colors: They haven't started to lay yet, they are a little too young yet.

1 Lavender Hen
1 Buff/Lavender Showgirl Hen
1 Lavender Roo (The youngest one)

3rd Pen will have:

1 White Roo ( VEGAS) He's such a nice boy! ( I am waiting on him to get old enough to breed her)
1 White Showgirl Hen

As soon as I get them all laying, I can let you know. I will try the food coloring in the vent one more time, so that I can determine which eggs belong to whom.

I would be interested to buy some hatching eggs too! Or chicks if you have any on you (: And if not, please let me know where I could get some good show quality silkies that would be available in less than a month or so, THANKS SO MUCH EVERYBODY! (:

Joe17 - The first silkie is adorable! All of them are adorable actually, but that one stands out to me. What type of silkie is it?

OH MY GOODNESS - silkies are stinking adorable. Can you eat their eggs? Good with people?

i heard they are amazing (: so im planning to get a lot of them & also hatch their fertilized eggs (:

We eat their eggs. Same as any other chickens eggs. I have a trio of Whites, not show quality though. I love Silkies. My roo is just becoming sexually mature at a year, and is just beginning to mount the ladies. He has also discovered his voice and now crows all day long, every day.

He's now challenging my younger daughter, but he doesn't dare with me. In fact, he tolerates me grabbing him and petting him and kissing him. He knows treats follow, lol. And the 2 Silkie hens are so incredibly docile, they are amazing. My kids grab them and hug them and kiss them all the time and they don't put up any fuss. It's not the best picture, but here is one of my Silkie hens. Her name is Holly. She has a beard and beautiful feathering, but no comb. Heidi is non bearded but has a straight comb.

So I won't be taking them to show. And my roo, his name is Hector, his comb isn't as purple as I would like, it's more cranberry in color. But I love that boy to pieces! I'm getting Silkie eggs in June in a variety of different colors, and I can't wait to add some more to my flock! No more white though, I don't think. I've never had to bathe chickens as much as I do those Silkies!

Here is Holly looking for bugs with one of my Bantam Buff Orpington boys:
