silkies

Flufnstuffs~FluffySilkies :

They are not 2 types of silkies,
One of the reasons for such differences in silkies is that to get the many colors silkies were mixed with other breeds. The straight comb is a Disqualification in the silkie standards, the horns are not frowned upon quite as bad. Silkies should have a mulberry colored comp in the shape of a half walnut shell.

:)

The one has that half a walnut shell, mulberry colored. I guess horns is the wrong word. Looks like a V above the walnut.
The partridge colored one has a typical roo comb.

No, horn is the right word.

You know, I did believe you for a second, then remembered Melanie answered earlier, then realized what a devil you are, and how silkies are so evil, LOL.

No one ever takes me seriously any more. Even my silkies laugh at me. I won't
even mention my wife. Oops, I just did.

No its not a DQ but I can't remember if they take off any points for that, If the Judge spots it.
Yes you can still breed with them. But if you have a better option use it.

LOL - I was thinking evel silkie as soon as I saw Purples name and the word horns to.

The standard for silkies is a walnut shaped comb, mulberry in color, almost black. I would not breed for "show" with anything but the mulberry walnut shaped comb. If your not going to show, why not have more

Yes, the Polish have a V comb and if you were breeding to standard for "show", you would want almost no comb at all. We have a standard male that we call the devil bird. He tries to flog us any oppertunity he has. He has horns!!

Because when your in a situation like mine, you buy what you can afford and work with what you have. Additionally I live in the city limits and can only keep up to 25 birds at a time, so I've really got to juggle the breeding game.

And with the price of diesel these days ($4.89 in DFW) I can't afford to buy a $75.00 perfect rooster.

I got both roos from a breeder, and they both are purebred. I don't care if they had 2 heads, LOL. They are both very cute. I will still post pics so newer silkie owners can see the difference.
One of my silkie roos, the one with the walnut, bites my feet and does the dance, but with behavior modification, he doesn't touch me now. Once you pick him up he is adorable and behaves. Do you think anyone would want him? NOT a chef, LOL. He's a pretty splash, pics to come.
