Well, in my experience, females tend to be more 'squatty' (that was actually the name of one of my friends' silkie hens!), and the males stand more upright, but there was a female that stood up more like a boy... But my silkie cocks were WAY bigger than any of my friends' hens... ANYWAYS... It could just depend on the breeding strain.

Usually, you put the male with the females for about two weeks before starting to collect the eggs for hatching.

I know this is old, but I put my rooster in with my 2 girls for 3 days and both their eggs were fertile.
