I am going to be getting some silkie chicks tomorrow, and am a little concerned now because someone told me that silkie bantam rooster are very aggressive and will attack other chicken breeds and people.

I am hoping this is not true as I wont be able to tell who will be hens and who will be roosters. Please anyone who can give me some info on their temperment and any tips for silkies I would really appreciate it!!

i think you are going to find yourself pleasantly surprised by what people have to say. silkies are notorious for being the sweetest breed out there. and silkie roos? total wimps.

I am sure somewhere out there among the thousands of silkie roosters in the world there are a few bad apples, However I have never had a mean silkie roo. they are sweet I even had one that would baby sit chicks

Well, I wouldn't say that most of my silkie roos are wimps--I recently sold a ratty looking little one who would regularly terrorize by barred rock cockerel who was easily three times his size. BUT, I've never had any that were people aggressive. I have heard of ones that are, but I think they are the exception. Most of mine are true cuddle-muffins when it comes to people, but should anything mess with their hens, they will make sure to protect them.

I have one. But that is one out of 14 which is not bad odds.

And if they are not used to having another male near them they will do just like any rooster and fight. Just because they look so docile does not mean they will run from competition or trouble.
