Hey guys, quick question I am looking for a large rooster that is docile and not aggressive towards humans but will still protect my flock from predators. Is a Brahma rooster a good choice? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I've heard brahmas are. My friend had a very cuddly brahma rooster but it does always just depends on the chicken.

I had a large Brahma rooster. He never recognized a threat. That is the first thing, he has to know there's a threat. If he had recognized a threat I'm sure he would have responded, but I don't think they would be aggressive enough to be very useful. Only against something that would run away at the first drop of protection.

For me I find the biggest determination with rooster behavior is how they were raised. Roosters raised as young chicks with older hens that taught them manners and put them their place are usually the behaved ones. It’s the ones raised with others their own age or younger that are like teenager boys that were never disciplined in their life. Also allowing them to imprint and handling them can greatly increase your chances of aggression due to them seeing you as a flock member that needs to submit.

I would recommend selecting a rooster from a line that the breeder says has good temperament, regardless of breed. In many cases, the line is more important than the breed. Some Brahmas would probably fit that role.
I second this opinion. It's less about the breed and more about what the breeder is specifically breeding for.
